An Overview of TSA PreCheck and Global Entry

February 6, 2017By stageadminTravel Tips

TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are programs offered by the Transportation Security Administration and Customs & Border Protection that allow pre-qualified passengers to pass through security and passport checks quickly and with less screening procedures than those who aren’t enrolled. Along with travel insurance, these two government programs can help make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.

An Overview of TSA PreCheck

TSA PreCheck costs $85 for five years of membership. The vast majority of members wait less than five minutes in security lines and do not have to remove their shoes, jackets, belts, small liquid containers or laptops. TSA PreCheck is available in 180 airports across the country.

The process involves a 10 minute appointment at a local office, a background check and fingerprinting. Once the process is complete, participants can immediately enjoy PreCheck benefits.

An Overview of Global Entry

Global Entry, a program run by Customs and Border Protection, offers expedited processing times for pre-approved travelers entering the United States. Similar to the TSA PreCheck program, the mission of Global Entry is to streamline the process and reduce wait times for those who are involved in the program. A $100 one time processing fee is required when applying to the Global Entry program.

Global Entry is available to United States citizens and permanent residents. Each applicant must pass a rigorous background check and in person interview. Once membership is approved, travelers can pass through customs and passport control with a simple receipt that is printed from a kiosk.

This program is available at most major airports nationwide and select airports in Canada, the Caribbean and elsewhere.

The Benefits of Using These Programs with Trip Insurance

As security and customs laws are tightened in the United States and elsewhere, maximizing efficiency and peace of mind is vital to a successful trip. Travel insurance protects consumers from canceled tickets, vacation emergencies, weather conditions and more while TSA PreCheck and Global Entry cut down on wait times at airports and border crossings.

Using a combination of both government travel programs and trip insurance is the perfect travel solution for both business travelers and vacationing families.
